After Apple implemented multitouch trackpad on their Macbook, many PC maker started to learn(copy) from Apple and put multitouch capable trackpad onto their laptop. Now almost all laptop out there able to use two finger scrolling and some even able pinch to zoom. I'm not sure if Apple will take action again PC maker that uses their multitouch technology on laptop but I think it is a useful feature to have in every laptop. What if your laptop doesn't have multitouch trackpad? Synaptics have updated their driver to enable two finger scrolling, three finger press and three finger flick multitouch gestures to your old laptop. So if your laptop have a Synaptics trackpad (which I think many laptop are using) ,you can download and install the driver to enable multitouch.
Download:
Windows XP,
Windows Vista/7Note:Although the installation file is from HP but it works with every other brand. You will have to uninstall old "
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" first before installing the new one. After each installation process, you will have to restart the system. So to complete the new driver installation, you will have to restart the system two times.I have tried the new driver on both of my laptop and both of them worked, one of them is a 3 year old plus laptop.
My conclusion is the multitouch gestures is not as sensitive & smooth as the glass trackpad on the Macbook but it is still a nice feature to add to older laptop.
